Overview
Flow batteries have a unique ability to decouple energy from power. This means that in a salt water flow battery, we can double the duration of energy storage simply by doubling the amount of salt water in the system. By contrast, to double the energy storage in a conventional lithium-ion battery, you must double all the materials in the battery including costly metals such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. By using low cost salt water, Aqua-Cell Energy’s battery will be the most affordable option for long-duration storage.
Each Aqua-Cell modular container contains battery stacks and storage tanks that pump salt water in a continuous, closed loop circuit. When electricity is applied to the salt water when the battery stacks are charged, the energy is stored in separate tanks. By reversing the process, we can retrieve the stored energy in the form of electricity.
